It's nothing like the same. EotN had many quests, lots of dialog and all new terrain.

A "gunslinger" character with some similar characteristics [I]could[I] be a possibility for the last adventurer profession, but I highly doubt it. There would be unnecessary overlap with the ranger.

All in all I think it was an awesome AFD plan. It was well thought out and well executed.

Gentlemen I have battled alongside the finest Ascalon survivors and tasted the Charr's foul unnatural blood with my righteous QUIVERING VEINY BLADE OF STEEL! I have engaged in more skirmishes than Devona could count in guerilla warfare. Believe me when I say that nothing is wasted, everything serves its use that is limited to the feebleness of mind.

OOC: Interesting replies! To clarify it's obvious Commando is a joke. But I was wondering if there the mechanics of the joke was somehow implemented as a new class or skill subset of an existing class, and only the Commando skin was joke content made for April's Fools.

You can 'skin' every skill and profession into something else.
Many games have mods that do such things.

If you change the grenades into some kind of explosive potion, the commando rifle into a normal GW2 rifle, the nightvision googles into some kind of magic googles...

You can skin anything from any theme into other theme.

But I don't think this is the case.

Youll be surprised even the simplist of quests and features take alot of time to impliment...
but then again it was just a normal terrain and a few text bubbles in terms of actual gameplay. Alot of the game would be made on a homemade quest making system which probably has many models etc that are just testing (either not implimented or just practise models from the devs).

That would be kind of hilarious.

But seriously, how are people still thinking the Commando is real?
Many years ago the BBC had a program highlighting the Swiss Spaghetti harvest, shots of people gathering cooked spaghetti off trees.
People believed them.

Another time the Guardian newspaper published an article on the floating Island of San Serrife with all the names made from fonts.

Some people will believe anything

A real Ascalonian Hero
Commando Joe is there.

It's Commando Joe against Primordial Dragons
Fighting to save the day.
He never gives up.
He's always there,
Fighting for freedom over land and air

OOC: So does anyone think the Commando character's mechanics are an actual class, they just reskinned or gave it a graphical update it so it would be obvious it was a joke? For an April Fools they really did spend a lot of effort, it was great!
